Setting Print window's Distiller option without UI Scripting

Hi all,

In my final workings of the Quark portion of my Auto-PDF script I have one more area I'd like to simplify (by hopefully removing the UI scripting).

With the previous assistance of many wonderful people on this list I've been able to set up Quark's print setup options to the desired specs, however when I issue the print command it simply prints to the printer "Adobe PDF" and uses whatever distiller option was last set. So if I want a press-optimised PDF but the previous PDF created was set to Standard... that's what I'll get.

Is there a command that can be sent to Apple's print engine (bypassing Quark) to set the PDF settings (found in the "PDF Options" menu of the print window) without having to use UI scripting? I'd also need to set the file name and destination of the saved PDF, which is what the user does in the Print dialog when they manually create a PDF.

Is this possible? I currently have it working with UI scripting, but, because of Quark's problem with UI scripting in the Print window, the user has to press the "Printer" button so the UI scripting can navigate to then set the PDF Options and save a file - not as quick and automated as I'd like.

Many thanks,

Cojcolds
