Hi,

If I run this script;

set wd to (word 3 of (do shell script "defaults read /Library/ Preferences/com.apple.windowserver | grep -w " & "Width")) as number
set ht to (word 3 of (do shell script "defaults read /Library/ Preferences/com.apple.windowserver | grep -w " & "Height")) as number

display dialog wd & return & ht as string

I get;
1024
768

The screen is 1680 X 1050 as verified by "display" preference.

This worked with the 1024 X 768 screen on the old iMac.

Has something changed?

Well, the most obvious thing to try is running the shell command in Terminal.app and seeing what you get.

What you'll see is that 'defaults read /Library/Preferences/ com.apple.windowserver' returns a list of supported resolutions, not just the current setting. Since your Intel Mac (you don't state which one) supports different resolutions from your earlier system you're going to get different results. In other words, elying on 'word 3' of this list is not reliable.

As Kai has already noted, using system_profiler is probably a far more reliable test.
