getting the image file of a mounted disk image

I can't work out the workflow for this.. essentially I want to be able to select the dmg file of a mounted disk image, something that would be like

tell app "Finder" to get the parent/origin/disk image of selection [the selection being the mounted image]

anyone able to help with the correct terminology (or tell me it can't be done?).

thanks.
