Photoshop CS2 overall scriptability

Hi Everyone,

Ok scripting Photoshop may not be the best way to do this but i'm interested to find out if it is possible...
I want to script photoshop to remove black flecks from the background of a portrait. The images are single layer Jpegs.
The Background is always a gradient from Blue to white but where in the gradient from blue to white depends on how tall the subject of the portrait is.
So the script would have to somehow search out these black flecks while leaving hair alone. Unfortunately as with all my questions
it's a story of mass production... ie. around 500 images at a time. and hopeful processing time of max 90 mins for something like that.

Thanks to all the talented people who reply for giving their effort.
