Photoshop Help

I'm sure there's a simple answer to my problem, but I've been banging my
head against the wall for hours now (kind of hurts) and I can't figure it
out.

How do I do the equivalent of command-clicking on a layer (set current
selection to the contents of the layer I clicked)?

"select current layer" doesn't work, because "current layer doesn't
understand the select command" or some such...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Monte Babington
