How did you discover that horrifying factoid? Did I read it correctly? TextEdit will replace a directory with a file, or Cocoa Scripting's standard Text Suite implementation will?

Another interesting feature of TextEdit - worth mentioning here in
case some AppleScript beginner is still reading this thread - is that
you can save the current document as "/Users/<you>/Documents/" and
make your Documents folder into a very compact executable (4 KB) very
easily.
