FWIW, and I don't really what you're going to do with the files, I've often found that the visual output of "quoted form" of anything is rather deceptive. But when it comes down to giving that to the shell, it generally works. I don't know if you've already tried it out, or as I often do, checked progress as you went along and stopped on that seemingly problematic output, but if that's the case, just try it ignoring the erratic visual.
