I know how to run an applescript/shell script with the prompt for admin authentication, but how about root?

It is running as root when you prompt for admin authentication.

e.g. Try this

do shell script "whoami" with administrator privileges

That prompts for admin credentials, and then runs the "whoami" command, and the output of that is "root", indicating the script is running as root.
