You can find out what's happening during a SCOD by running "sample". An easy
way is to switch to Activity Monitor, inspect the non-responding process,
and press the Sample button.
But in this case it seems to me that you *know* what's happening, because
you told it to happen - you're doing a "whose" clause with "entire
contents", which could involve a lot of deep and time-consuming recursion.
As it says in my book, you shouldn't use the phrase "entire contents" unless
you are willing not to use the Finder for a long time afterwards. m.
