My bad. This is simply another example of the same wrong-scope mistake.
'Exchange ID' is NOT a property of Exchange calendar class, so you can't get
the Exchange ID of a calendar. It's _only_ a property of 'Exchange account'
(it's your username - what comes before the @ in your email address, known
in the UI Tools/Accounts/Exchange acct/Edit as the 'Account ID'.
As noted it compiles incorrectly to 'ExternalID', but it still works.
