Hi,

I'm trying to convert DOC files to PLAIN TEXT using Text Edit to read and Applescript write to file to create plain text, but written files are always WESTERN (WINDOWS LATIN) encoding.
How can I create WESTERN MAC OS ROMAN encoding files ?

If you don't find a better solution, the (free) Satimage osax has two verbs for that: convert to Mac [from ISO latin] and convert to Windows [from Mac]. I'm sure one of them will do the job for you.

That said, if you did not take specific steps, you got a Unicode string from Text Edit and you wrote a UTF-16 file, didn't you?
