How to get text of frontmost window in Mail?

  • Subject: How to get text of frontmost window in Mail?

Truth be told I've always stayed away from Mail.app scripting... at the moment I have a seemingly simple task in front of me, a favor for my sis, and I'm absolutely choking on the first step!

I just need to get the selected text of the front-most window (a new message). Barring that, I need to get the full text of that window... preferably as styled text, but I can live with string or Unicode or what have you.

So there's no selection property of windows... and the selection property of the application class reports message selections, not text.

Surely I'm missing something... but looking at Mail.app's dictionary and poking around with simple tests still feels alien to me, after something approaching a decade of AppleScripting.

Help!
