But I can't find a "XIII".
I think that you cannot generate such high Unicode by coercing a
Roman ASCII string into Unicode. You have to use Unicode in the first
place.
For instance, you can write in a Unicode window in Smile: XIXIIabc,
(my e-mail client won't let me write the actual characters here), then
set aText to text of window 2
offset of "c" in aText
-- return 5
