What's bad, and what's very bad on this list, is using "external" methods as the *first* way to get anything done in AppleScript.
On that note..
is this a bad time to ask how to do something in a shell command rather than applescript?
How does one get the last word of a string as a shell?
get last word of "this is the word i want" -- applescript
And as a shell...?
awk, sed, tr... ????
someone.. ? it would just be really nice to know how to get the last line of a string in this case, to save me going from applescript to shell back to applescript then back into another shell command, i would like to take care of this section in the shell part, keep things simple..
