I would like to give my point of view, and specially because it's a beginner
point of view, as far as I just get one year scripting, and of course no
command line experience at all.
When I began to "sniff" in AS, one of the first things I do, was subscribing
to this list; evidently I didn't understand anything, but I just keep
reading and trying to learn something, and every now & then I found
questions & answers that was on my level and I understood well.
To be honest all that post that talk about shell scripting, push me to, at
least, read about it, and show me that under the hood, there are other
powerful options, if maybe not for me at this time, now I know about it.
Staying in this list and not in a beginner's one is very convenient from a
beginner's point of view, because we can see solutions that in another list
maybe not, even solutions that use tools like shell or Python or any other
one.
I remember, for example, an answer from Kai, that was pure AS, it was about
lists; Kai's solution was very nice, using script objects among other things
new to me, and frankly I didn't understood very well. The solution wasn't a
beginners solution, and THAT is exactly that makes me learn a lot, well that
and the fact that the list is also for beginners, so I just put a post
asking for an explanation of Kai's solution and I received a very detailed
explanation from Kai and other guys that teach me a lot. This techniques, I
think, I'll never found it in a beginners list, so in my opinion this list
and all it's discussions about AS and other tools is what we beginners need
to learn faster and better.
