I am scripting Toast Titanium and ran into an out of memory error, which prompted me to save the script as an app. This script also uses 24u appearance osax for better dialogs. Switching to an app resolved my out of memory issue, but once the script is done, an error is returned stating “changes to this script could not be saved because of an OSA script error”.

I think I encountered something like this once. I've forgotten the details, so I did some experimenting. Bundled applications created by Script Editor have the permissions for Group and Others set to Read Only for the files:
/Contents/Resources /MacOS/applet (or droplet)
/Contents/Resources/Scripts/main.scpt
(Smile seems not to have this problem.)

Try manually setting the permissions of /Contents/Resources/Scripts/ main.scpt to Read & Write and report what happens.
