Is there any more general way of doing it so this would work as well?

Unfortunately, "path to me" *is* the general way. It doesn't work in Script Editor because (IMHO) of a bug in Script Editor. It works most other places, at least on recent OS releases.

Script Editor also seems to choke on "path to resource" calls for bundled scripts. It's a shame.
