What I haven't understood is why folks who object to autoresponder
junk mail (which any competent server should trap and drop, and any
competent autoresponder software should log and send only once to
each unique incoming address with special attention to lists) haven't
simply filtered the offender's email address out of their mail
stream. I will never receive more than two emails containing an
autoresponder offender's email address - after two they're filtered
for life. When Monte returns from his weekend away, I won't know it
(or care), and I won't remove the filter.

But you are overlooking the fact that people who actually are
contributing to this list are the ones who receive most of all this
"out of office" junk. As far as I can see you are not a frequent
poster here and therefore don't see as much of this. So for me your
criticism seems to be rather misdirected...
