Lot's of requirements for this method. But it's a strategy not limited to image attributes.

If you have Tiger, Developer Tools, and if your screenshots appear by default as PNGs, then you should be able to take a screen shot and run this:

set w to last word of (do shell script "mdls -name kMDItemPixelWidth ~/Desktop/Picture\\ 1.png")
set h to last word of (do shell script "mdls -name kMDItemPixelHeight ~/Desktop/Picture\\ 1.png")
set dims to w & space & "X" & space & h
