The featuritis indeed is with us...
Now, perhaps the question is: "who (what) needs a pathname on the
clipboard, and why?".
Someone who needs to insert the pathname into a document.
And there is also the question: "why the clipboard?", as that
useful but still perturbing beast is not necessarily the most
efficient way to share info between apps, should such a sharing be
the goal.
If the app requires manually entering a pathname for some reason.
Well, in a word, do you really need to make provisions for multiple
ways to express paths on the clipboard?
Well, the original question ("How can I enter a pathname into a text
field without manually typing it?" came up on a mac newsgroup, and
one of the suggestions was to drag the icon of the file (or folder)
into a Terminal window, then copying and pasting it. Well, that
method results in a slash-delimited pathname, so I thought it would
be nice to give the user the option of formats all within one
application.
I realized that I was engaging in creeping featuritis when I did
that; hence my message to this list.
