Novice question #2

I would like to set a date-time like:

"4-24-2007 6-41-07 PM"

I don't know how to say it in 'applescript' - something like...?

set date_today to ((the current date) as string)

set theFormat to "mm-dd-yy hh-MM-ss ?m"

Now what?
