ah! ok, that's the thing. This is a pretty large fileshare with lots of
directory levels, so it would be very time consuming for me to add the
folder action by hand.
does any one know whether it is possible to do this programmatically?
ideally, i need to create a script that attaches the script to any
folder in the share when it is created too.

AFAIK, Folder Actions aren't recursive, so you would have to add the
Folder Action to the subfolder first. Which probably means you need
to change the action so that it automatically attaches itself to new
folders.. which I don't know how to do programmatically.
