Yep. And piping the result to the bbedit tool creates a finder-like window with correct answers.
I have found that "tell"ing a named finder window to update all files is more reliable than telling window name of application "Finder" to update. Two nested tells instead of a one liner.
Of course I can't prove it and the effect may be because it's always done with osascript.
I often do a cp /dev/null $WORK/somefile as a means of clearing out disk space while retaining the filename so that it doesn't get processed multiple times. Finder really gets confused by that and no amount of tell-updating will make Finder reset its file sizes in a list view. If you select a block of zero size files with a drag gesture some of the file sizes will get updated while others are not
