That's assuming that it gets that info. It's not consistent for me, however
Word *always* has access to that info, assuming it's there in the first
place.

The problem with Word is that to get that info, it has to open the file, and
that's annoying. The problem with the finder is that the author info has
nothing to do with the Finder. That's just a panel in "Get Info" but the
data comes from Spotlight, which, as you're seeing is not easily scriptable.
