These on-list discussions roll around every year or so, raise some
valid issues, generate lots of sturm und drang, and finally die out
again with nothing changed. Personally I'm loath to get involved in
yet another one (especially right now when I've plenty of paying work
to be getting on with), so for starters I suggest you try searching
through the list archives for previous such exchanges in the last few
years (e.g. you'll find me in most of them, which should help narrow
your search). You may also get some useful information from past email
correspondence between folks like myself and other Apple engineers,
assuming you keep that sort of stuff around. Oh, and read Matt's book
and William Cook's HOPL 3 paper (there's a link on the appscript site
to it) if you haven't already done so - you should get some useful
pointers from those as well.
If you want a detailed description of AppleScript's problems beyond
that, then I'd recommend contacting known-to-be-critical AppleScript
experts like myself and Matt for an off-list discussion. (That's not
to snub regular AppleScripters, mind, but most don't have the breadth
and/or depth of technical knowledge to provide a really deep critical
analysis.)
