I only know 2 situations in programming where shorter is in fact
better:
1) If you're short on memory
2) If you're participating in a (perl-)golf contest
You're using "short" to mean "compact"; it can also mean "simple".
Compact is not necessarily an advantage. Simple is. As a coworker of
mine likes to say, "less code is less bugs". Compare Einstein: "Make
everything as simple as possible, but not simpler."
