It seems evident from reading this list over a period of years that we all know that there is a long list of bugs with AppleScript. Some of these bugs are many years old and in some cases seem to be easily correctable, yet they persist. This makes me wonder: "What are all those programmers doing while they are NOT fixing AppleScript bugs?"

A few weeks ago, Apple released Leopard and now I know! (I suspected I knew the answer when Tiger was released.) Apple is busy inventing Eye Candy. Or iCandy as it's called at Apple. Some iCandy is functional and useful, some not, but it's all visible and it does sell computers. And, yes, Apple IS in the business of selling computers, so I understand the justification for iCandy. But ...

I fear that all the iCandy is being produced at the expense of not doing other things. Like fixing some of the invisible functionality of OS X, in particular, AppleScript. Fixing invisible functionality may seem deferrable, but I think not for long. If the long list of small problems is allowed to simply grow without action, it may one day bite Apple in the calyx.
