Well, I suppose so, but it seems so shaky, as long as I don't know why it's
not activating.

What I have now has one advantage, and that is if it has failed to activate,
but the display dialog command has not yet reached it's timeout, a manual
switch to the applet (invoked by the user) will then allow the dialog to
display, allowing the user to break out of the loop.
