OK, I know tone doesn't carry well in text, so Ed: in future, pleasae assume that whatever words I use represent at most 50% of the emotional intensity you would normally ascribe to them, 'cause you seem to be taking me way too seriously. :)

So when I said "I had hoped to be able to avoid using TID", that wasn't a fervent wish, and when I said I ran into a "minor annoyance", that doesn't mean that I'm actually mad.  At anybody, or anything.  It's just a case of my script having to compute something that it should, in a sensible world, be getting from the app instead.

I find it interesting that "close doc" works for you; when I tried, I got 'AppleScript Error: QuickTime Player got an error: Can't get document "filename.avi"'. I'm on 10.5.1 running QuickTime Pro version 7.3.0.   How about you?
