Rosetta isn't an application - at least not a user-visible one. It's
a PPC emulator for Intel that is probably the main reason for the
notable lack of rioting in the streets after the architecture change.
Normally you don't have to worry about it, because the OS
automatically invokes it when necessary. But sometimes you have a
binary plugin module - QuickTime codecs, OSAXen, whatever - that are
only available in ppc form even though the main app has an intel port.
In that case you can instruct the os to run the ppc version of the
app via rosetta rather than running the native intel version,
sacrificing some speed for the added functionality contained in the
plugin.
