hi Jay,

Ronald Hofman kindly suggested the following:

set DefaultApp to (word -6 of (do shell script "defaults read
com.apple.Preview"))

Unfortunately, OMM it errors out with the following message: ³sh: line 2:
com.apple.Preview: command not found²

Any ideas ?
Just make sure jou put the whole line Ronald suggest in 1 (one) line. Looks like somewhere along the route from what Ronald typed to what you read the one-liner got wrapped into 2 lines. Hence the error message.

BTW, I tried the one line (which then compiles and runs) however it does not return the default app with the "preferences" which are on my machine as being the 6th word from the end of that entry ....

YMMF :-> so it may work as advertised on your machine (??)

Kind regards,
