If you want keyboard shortcuts, you might like to try
TypeIt4Me. The latest version allows you to assign AppleScripts to any
abbreviation you want. Not just F-keys or other typical keyboard
shortcuts (most of which are difficult to remember).
With TypeIt4Me you can use a system of easily remembered
mnemonics. For example, I type "tud" followed by the
space bar and it runs a script that will
"Tidy Up Desktop"
(puts my icons where I want them). I have another that will take the
URL from the web page and put it in a mail message to my brother.
Another one that puts the URL in a mail message to my wife. Another
that sends URL to a list of friends. Another that resizes windows for
my PowerBook if they are too large (from having been on my second
monitor). Another that pops up a dialog for entry of terms and then
does a google search on them. And a lot more. And my fingers never
touch a mouse or stray from the home position on the keyboard. You
really might want to consider this as a way to launch scripts. It's a
new feature in TypeIt4Me and I've found a couple of bugs, but the
developer is in the process of fixing them now.
I have no financial interest in TypeIt4Me. I beta test
every version. The developer is a personal friend. But I get no
monetary or material compensation from sales of this shareware. I just
find it to be the most useful productivity enhancement I have on my
Mac. Even before it could launch AppleScripts it saved me tens of
thousands of keystrokes by typing things for me. It's even better
now.
