Uhm, no. The only one showing any "disdain" in this conversation is
you, and you're directing it squarely at those of us who come from a
UNIX background. If we didn't think application scripting,
AppleScript, AppleScripters, AppleScript syntax, and Applescript
technology were worthwhile, WE WOULDN'T BE SUBSCRIBED TO THE FARKING
MAILING LIST.
Yeesh.
Maybe you don't like the fact that OS X is based on UNIX. You resent
what you see as a sudden requirement that you learn UNIX after over a
decade of living in your little private Oz? Well, we "Unix shell
scripting experts" didn't make that decision, the Wizard of Jobs in
the Emerald City did, and I'm not about to apologize for it. If you
don't want to use "do shell script", great. Don't. No skin off my
jaunty red fedora. But don't whin(g)e because others on the list feel
that sometimes it's the best way to solve an Applescript problem -
which, is, ya know, totally logical since it is an Applescript
feature. Which is, after all, what this list is about.
I'm not going to contribute to this thread on-list anymore. Lest
anyone think I'm trying to sneak in the Last Word, I'll be happy to
discuss further offlist, though I honestly can't think of anything to
say that hasn't been said a few zillion times already. My impression
at this point is that Mr. Stockly is just being cussed for the sake of
cussedness.
