I don't get digest versions, but for the AppleScript Users list, going back 88,000+ messages (to March 1999), "my book" shows up in 143 of them. Perl, 3657. Python, 543. Do shell script, 4373. Ruby, 325. Cocoa, 1126.
Well, "do shell script" didn't exist until AppleScript 1.8, which came out in, what, end of 2002? So if you go back only that far and see how many times it shows up as a percentage of the whole, that would be more meaningful.
Even so, it doesn't look like a terribly significant fraction of the whole.
