Well, shoot.
I haven't made a total count of posts yet, but this thread may well
displace one I inadvertently spawned back in '04, at least for being the
most lengthy, as well as the most vicarious and discursive to the
original poster's request.
I'd like to take the title back...
So here are links to (pretty much) the self same project (in somewhat
evolved form) I 'advertised' way back when... presumably every bit as
threatening - with the ability to run scripts (your choice of flavor)
from a local browser page... and pass parameters from HTML and Javascript
to local scripts.

I still think the idea has utility, but on the other hand, if I only
manage to subvert this thread, I'll consider that (alone) as a service to
the AS community at large.
