Sound scripts acting up

  • Subject: Sound scripts acting up

I've got a STRANGE problem, I'm hoping someone here will have heard of something similar...

I've got some VERY simple scripts for muting the sound and setting volume levels.  Here's a representative script:

set volume with output muted

When I try to run it from script menu, I just get a flash of the screen (visible bell).  When I try to run it in Script Editor I get "Cannot make the current application into type small real."

HUH?

A friend of mine has said that I need to trash com.apple.soundprefs.plist - but I don't have such a critter.

Any help appreciated.

Perfect Tommy: Emilio Lizardo. Wasn't he on TV once?
Buckaroo Banzai: You're thinking of Mr. Wizard.
Reno: Emilio Lizardo is a top scientist, dummkopf.
Perfect Tommy: So was Mr. Wizard.
