Scripting a scanner

  • Subject: Scripting a scanner

Anybody know of a way to script a document scanner? I'd just like to be able to set the scanning parameters and then scan a page (or group of pages) to a file.

The Epson scan app that came with my scanner isn't scriptable. Neither is VueScan (though the developer makes noises about adding it "someday").

Apple's Image Capture app isn't scriptable. There's a plug-in in /System/Library/ScriptingAdditions called "Image Capture Scripting", which sounds like just the ticket, but it has an empty dictionary! (OK, Apple, why are you keeping something that doesn't work at all in your OS distribution???)

I guess UI scripting might be a solution, but I've never done it. Anybody have a pointer to a good tutorial?
