Apologies if my remark is irrelevant, but we have much used
imagemagick in the past, mostly for resizing, changing formats, and
cropping images, now we use only Smile. Smile uses PDF Quartz, of
course, which is now as fast as imagemagick and provides results of
the same high quality.
Of course, Smile does not implement all of imagemagick so maybe you
can't change for Smile but if you can, do it, Smile is much easier to
install and its scriptable layer may save much time to you.
