date "1/1/1000"
... works fine on Tiger when International is set to Japanese
region and
Japanese Calendar. Naze ga wakarani.
I know the answer. Because it is *not* a true Japanese environment.
I made a new English-user account on Tiger and set preferences as you
wrote.
date "1/1/1000" works fine in this *fake* Japanese environment.
But when we go back to the *true* Japanese environment.....it does
not work any more.
You'd better to make *true* Japanese environment like this...
