If you read all the way to the end, you'll find that this is on topic.
A couple of months ago my old keyboard began showing signs of age, so
I replaced it with the Aluminium Keyboard. (It it had anti-skid pads,
it would be near perfect.) Then I discovered that Shut Downs were a
problem with the new keyboard. Often, my PPC G4 with OS X 10.4.11
would shut down, then immediately restart. Sometimes Log Out > Shut
Down worked, sometimes not. Sometimes unpluging the Pro Mouse worked,
sometimes not. Unplugging the keyboard immediately after the start of
the shut down sequence always works, but very inconvenient.
Today, I wrote this application ...
display dialog "Shut Down now ... ?" buttons {"Cancel", "Shut Down"}
default button 2
if button returned of the result is not "Shut Down" then return
tell application "Finder" to shut down
It shuts down perfectly, every time. But, I've only tried it three
times.
Does anyone know ...
Why would the Finder's 'shut down' command work while other methods
do not?
What's going on here?
