At risk of sounding like an idiot...

How can I tell terminal app to open a new tab in the frontmost window?

This does not work. I get an error back from the terminal "AppleEvent
handler failed"

tell application "Terminal"
    set frontWindow to window 1
    tell frontWindow
        set newTab to make new tab with properties {number of rows:50,
number of columns:80}
-- do more stuff here, once I fix the above item...
    end tell
end tell
