Right. Well, I suppose it needs to be clearly defined which overrules which.
I'm not sure how far along that discussion is though. Resolution will likely
take some time because this involves at least three different groups (those
defining HTML 5, XHTML 2, and HTTP). Also, I personally don't spend much time
on XHTML, because there is very little 'real world usage' for it at the
moment (on the Web, it still needs to be served as text/html to be of any
use).
Note though that HTML 5 will define both a HTML and XML serialisation, so
both "HTML 5" and "XHTML 5" (or whatever it ends up being called) will be
defined in one and the same spec and the aim is to keep the differences
between both as small as possible, to ensure easy transition of documents.
If you care, joining the HTML 5 Working Group is quite easy:
<http://www.w3.org/html/wg/>. You can basically just invite yourself as an
Invited Expert.
