You can't - unless you use an OS that is pre-Tiger.

I had a discussion with John Gnaegy about this in 2005 and posted this response to this list as well as the Colorsync list where the discussion originated:

The Apple site *still* has Image Capture Scripting examples in 2007 even though they haven't worked since 2005...
