There was a significant amount of bandwidth in the last few

Just a reminder to folks that TextCommands provides a powerful,
unintrusive, Unicode-aware solution to many of AppleScript's
shortcomings in the text handling department, including encoding
conversions.
TextCommands is 100% open source software and completely free to
share, modify* and use. The latest release, 1.1.3, runs on all
systems from 10.3.9 onwards and is available for immediate download
from the ever dependable MacScripter.net's Scripting Additions section:

While agree that 100% compatability is not realistic, I think Apple
does a pretty remarkable job keeping scripts from breaking with new
releases.
Given that the language is virtually unchanged since 1995, this is
perhaps not as remarkable as it seems. ;) However, even if the
Leopard changes do cause a little bit of short-term pain for some
folks, the long term gains it'll provide to everyone should more than
make up for this. Anyway, we'll find out next week.
Cheers,
