But you didn't deal with the first question; what are you talking about?

I'm not even sure this problem involves value lists.

Instead, it appears to involve the list of values in a field.

Also unexplained is the relation between spreads, spreadsheets, items, and
folders.

Some simplified examples would be helpful.

Building a web-accessible FileMaker solution also would seem like a more
efficient solution but that's another matter.
