Try typing this in the terminal and see what the output says for TIFF format:

/usr/ImageMagick-6.3.5/bin/identify -list format

My installation has this:

TIFF* TIFF rw+ Tagged Image File Format (LIBTIFF, Version 3.6.1)

However, I installed using fink. Your installation my not have included LIBTIFF.

rw = read & write
