The 57th character in your subject is displayed as various characters:
"Š" or "?" or 'a umlaut' or 'A umlaut' or null or perhaps space.
(Which corrects my description in my original post.)
A display dialog does not show the character, so it's displaying
either a space or a null. When I do something wrong and get the error
message "Can't display list ... as text", the character in the error
message is either 'a umlaut' or 'A umlaut'.
Very strange!

Perhaps the offending Unicode character has no ASCII equivalent
(when I hit
send in Entourage I got a warning about some Unicode, but it was
late so I
just clicked OK). What was character 56?
