More update. I recently had a Mail message with lots of unicode in its subject. Mail Saver saved it without error as the file named ...

	???????????????????????????B?????????m?F 0.emlx

Perhaps the problem is just with ascii char 138. But, of course, I can't be sure, so I think I'll just remove ascii > 127 from my subject text. (I shouldn't have to do that.)

I wrote the last update before seeing the last four responses. If the bad subject text is pasted into Mail (as I did in my original posting), then it becomes "Š". But it also displays as "Ä" or "ä" depending on how it's displayed. That's bad. Something seems to go awry when some unknown unicode character is translated to ascii 138.

Who is the expert on unicode ?
