That didn't change anything. Still hangs. Was there something

particular you intended to achieve by rearranging things like that?

No, not really...

It is just like I am trying to do similar stuff with rule-fired

scripts and am having little troubles, too.

I googled a working snippet that I was able to modify for my needs...

...
I use this to synchronize two Filemaker-Databases via email
It seems that, as someone said a while back, it's the fact that I am doing GUI stuff that causes it to go wrong.

BTW, I guess you don't want to do anything with the mails or their

contents themselves?

Not 100% sure what you mean here. I don't want to modify anything in the message as stored in Mail, but I do want to have access to the text of the message in my helper app, ideally. Basically the rule runs for urgent pager messages, and will display an alert on the screen and may notify some other machines, mobile phones etc. The text of the message would ideally be involved in that, though simple notification of receipt ("check your email") would do.

Did you also try to just attach the script included in your "helper"

to the rule? (without the "on perform mail action... handler")

Yes. Same problem.

I thought this handler was only necessary if working with the mail

concerning things like sender, recipient, body etc.?

Don't know. Like you, I'm just using something I downloaded!
