Hi Robert,

As near as I can tell "AppleScript Studio" is some kind of sadistic joke.

I finally found and installed "Xcode" although there was no mention of
"AppleScript Studio" anywhere in it.

Although you may not find a direct mention of AppleScript Studio within Xcode's interface, per se, you will find AppleScript Studio documentation in Xcode's documentation, as well as on the Apple Developer Connection website. See...

You can find the AppleScript Studio Programming Guide online here...

<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppleScript/Conceptual/StudioBuildingApps/index.html >

... and the AppleScript Studio Terminology Reference online here...

<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppleScript/Reference/StudioReference/index.html >

Furthermore, you can find numerous AppleScript Studio example projects in the /Developer/Examples/AppleScript Studio/ folder, once you've installed Xcode.

I finally found A fairly recent MacScripter page
http://macscripter.net/articles/439_0_10_0_C/ which starts out with "When
developers first hear the name AppleScript Studio, they often mistake it for
an actual application. However, this is not the case".

This Page (updated March 2008) looked promising till I got down to the
paragraph "Interface elements are contained within a palette window. To bring
up this window if it is not already visible, select Show Palettes from the
Tools > Palettes menu".

There is NO PALETTES sub menu under Tools.

You are correct about this if you're running Leopard and Xcode 3. In previous versions of Xcode, and when the article was originally written, there was a Palettes submenu under Tools in Interface Builder. Apple significantly changed Interface Builder in Xcode 3, however. So, like a number of other things, these menus have now changed. In Xcode 3, you'll find the interface elements palette located under Tools > Library in Interface Builder. However, please note that the palette itself has changed quite a bit too, so you may find a learning curve there too.

Regards,

-Ben
